Dessert and Candy Bars Offer Sweet Choices

Today’s happy couples typically don’t stop at the traditional tiered wedding cake when planning a sweet ending to the night.  Dessert bars are popping up all over the place!  But how to make sure yours is a stand out affair, one your guests will remember long after the cake is sliced? Consider your dessert bar an extension of the reception, incorporating your color scheme and stylistic theme all the way to the end.

Sweet Style

Construct a spread with colors coordinating to your hues.  Formal black tie affair? Indulge with gourmet chocolates, black and white mousses, jars of nonpareils and Jordan almonds.  Scatter bowls of rock candy and platters of fudge for some finger licking fun.

Red your focal color?  Load up apothecary jars with Swedish fish, strawberry drops, cinnamon buttons and red M & M’s.  A stack of red and white striped bags encourages guests to help themselves.  If you are serving cake, you may want to create a separate candy bar for guests with small bags or boxes to create a take-home treat. If cake is not your thing, small pastries and cookies, or even a cook-your-own s’mores bar may be the perfect option.

Is yours a sophisticated soiree? Go with high-brow goodies such as homemade gelato in chocolate-mint and lemon, surrounded by platters of mascarpone stuffed strawberries with crushed nut topping.  Heap silver baskets with gourmet marshmallows — raspberry, white chocolate, blueberry and toffee flavors are a sure hit.  Top mini cheesecakes with fresh fruit for a decorative touch.  Bourbon and coffee infused petits fours are an elegant indulgence.

Sweet Backdrop

Continue your rustic chic theme with down-home goodies.  A propped wagon wheel makes a surprising backdrop. Surround vintage lanterns with caramel popcorn balls wrapped in colored paper and tied with raffia bows.  Peppermint sticks, licorice whips and jars of penny candy further your theme.  Intersperse platters of moon pies with flower pots filled with peach-raspberry pie pops.  Invite your guests to embrace their inner child with root beer floats and creamsicles.

Incorporate your dessert bar into the overall motif of your special day and you’ll send your guests off with very sweet dreams!
