Groom Accessories Details

Details, Details – Groom Accessories!

While my guy is a lot of wonderful things, a fashionista he’s not! His look tends toward casual and laid back, pulled together and not too flashy. He did a nice job of choosing a tux for our big day – a classic black number that fit him like a dream.

I was so proud of him! When I asked about the shoes, tie and belt, though, I was met with a blank stare. Huh? Seems he thought he could just grab something out of closet and we’d be set. No way! Not for this once-in-a-lifetime event!

He was happy to let me take the lead while he tagged along. After all, what bride doesn’t have definite expectations of how her man will look at the altar? I knew I wanted a bow tie – it just has that old-school elegant feel. With a nod toward his playful nature, we chose a design that incorporated tiny black and white polka dots. Paired with a matching pocket silk, it looked just great.

What about shoes?

On to the shoes. He wanted comfort, and who can blame him? It’s going to be a long day! Loafers? We found some nice ones, and I loved the silver detailing along the tongue. I was afraid he’d dance right out of them, though. Wing tip oxfords had that classic look I love; too bad they didn’t work with the tux. He balked when I tried to talk him into a pair of traditional tux shoes – the shiny black patent leather ones. He said the shine was too “girly.” We compromised on an Italian leather lace up pair with low heel — a marriage of my taste and his demand for comfort. The smooth leather soles will keep him sliding and gliding on the dance floor. We were even able to find a belt that matched perfectly!

I nabbed a brushed silver money clip when he wasn’t looking. I’ll have it monogrammed and surprise him at the rehearsal dinner. He’s going to need some way to keep our monetary gifts in order, not to mention the tip for the limo driver. A display of shades caught our eyes as we were ready to check out. His old sunglasses may be fine for out on the boat; our al fresco photo ops deserve a more polished look. A pair of polarized silver and black aviators was perfect. Now I just have to keep them off his face until the big day!
