Engaged! Let the Plans Begin! - Wedding Compass

The question has been popped and accepted. You’re engaged! How do you start planning for the day of your dreams?

First things first.  Choose a venue and then a date that they are open.  The date will need to be locked before you can book most of the vendors. Sit down together and make a realistic budget that accounts for your priorities, be it a destination wedding or a lavish reception.  Decide who you’d like in your wedding party and make your requests.

Good photographers, videographers, caterers, florists and musicians are in high demand, so book early.  Make sure you get the details in a written contract to avoid surprises down the road.

Next, choose your officiant — member of the clergy, justice of the peace or family friend – and ceremony venue.  Reserve the date with your officiant, ceremony venue and reception hall.

Start shopping for your gown.  Custom dresses can take several months to create, and even if you’re purchasing off the rack, expect to have several fittings.  After you’ve chosen your gown, focus on your attendant’s apparel.  Allow several months for sizing, ordering and alterations.

A few months prior to the big day, order your cake and favors and send out the invites.

Most importantly, relax, laugh, and don’t forget to enjoy the process
